Jeannette Angell's wide range of interests is clearly evident in her books: Légende, Wings, and Flight are all historical novels; The Illusionist is a contemporary mainstream novel; her most recent book, Madam, is a memoir; and she is currently working on a literary novel.
So what is the connection?"What I'm interested in exploring," says Angell, "is the complex nature of people. We're none of us angels or demons, but we all have something of each inside us. My characters — and indeed my own life — reflect this; we struggle with the gray areas of living, make mistakes, aren't always nice. Whether I'm writing about history or a mystery, the same holds true: that people are complicated and do not always do what we expect them to. But what I also look for and write about is the resolution of all this complication: redemption, unconditional love, forgiveness, and peace."

Awards and Fellowships
Callgirl was a Booksense Book-of-the-Year finalist for 2004. The author has been the recipient of the Artist-in-Residence program at the cape Cod National Seashore, a joint effort between the Cape Cod National Seashore, Fine Arts Work Center, Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and Peaked Hill Trust, a non-profit organization which manages the dune shacks located on the grounds of the Cape Cod National Seashore.
